What are reportable obligations?

Reportable offenders have certain reporting obligations that they must meet for the duration of time they are on the Child Protection Register. These reporting obligations are set out in Part 4 of the Child Protection (Offender Reporting and Offender Prohibition Order) Act 2004.

As a reportable offender, a person must keep police informed of their whereabouts and other personal details for a period of time after they are released into the community. The personal details a person must report on include, for example:

  • any contact (other than incidental contact) they have with a child
  • a change in where they are living
  • any tattoos or permanent distinguishing marks
  • employment details
  • details of any vehicles the reportable offender owns or has driven.

The personal details that a reportable offender must report on are outlined in full in Schedule 2 of the Child Protection (Offender Reporting and Offender Prohibition Order) Act 2004.
